Applying for an ALEF Grant
NMD United offers independent living grants to adults with neuromuscular disabilities (NMD) through the Alex Landis Empowerment Fund (ALEF). These grants assist with out-of-pocket costs that are related to living with a disability.
You can apply for and receive up to 3 of these grants this year (max $500):

Personal Care Attendant (PCA) Advertising, up to $250 USD

Consumable Medical Supplies (CMS), up to $250 USD

Durable Medical Equipment (DME), up to $250 USD
-
Assistive Technology (AT), up to $250 USD
-
Accessible Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VEH), up to $250 USD
If you have received a grant in prior years, we encourage you to apply again.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Any adult living with a NMD is eligible to apply for grants, regardless of income.
Your NMD is verified if:

You are a member of the Facebook group “Living with M.D.”; or

You submit a letter from a medical professional with a NMD diagnosis; or
-
You previously received an ALEF grant.
GRANT DISTRIBUTION
I. Reimbursement
Grants can be given as reimbursement, which means you have already purchased the items/services.
Reimbursement process:

If approved, you will receive the grant via PayPal
II. Financial Hardship
Grants can be given under financial hardship, which means you need the grant first to purchase the items/services.
Financial hardship process:

Submit proof of payment
It may take up to 30 days for the ALEF Committee to contact you about your grant application.
